Challenge: The Baskerville Punches research team, affiliated with the Cambridge Heritage Science Hub (CHERISH), needed a website to present their AHRC-funded project exploring the typographic punches of John Baskerville (1707–1775). The site needed to communicate complex academic research in an accessible and engaging way, while showcasing educational films and connecting with a broad audience of historians, craftspeople, and type enthusiasts.
Solution: We built a bespoke WordPress website that brings the project's research to life. The site features sections for educational films demonstrating punch-cutting practices, research updates, team profiles, and links to social media channels. The design reflects the craft and heritage at the heart of the project, with a clean layout that makes academic content approachable.
Results: The website serves as the central hub for the Baskerville Punches project, helping to share findings with the public and academic community alike. Backed by Birmingham City University, the University of Cambridge, and UKRI/AHRC, the site supports the project's mission to reconstruct eighteenth-century punch-cutting methods for contemporary industrial, craft, and educational contexts.
